Botox Treatment

Botox is the short name for Botulinum Toxin molecules produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is essentially a toxin, but in high amounts, it can act as a neurotoxin.

This toxin has been refined so that a specific amount can be injected to block the movement of certain nerves.

In aesthetics, this technique is particularly used for the following purposes:

  • Facial expression muscles that create lines with age. By performing these injections, lines and wrinkles are relaxed, providing a lifting effect on the face and neck.
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) treatment
  • Migraine treatment with injections at various points on the scalp
  • Muscle spasms; some neurological conditions can cause muscles to contract. These can be relaxed with Botox injections.
  • Bladder dysfunction; it can help reduce urinary incontinence caused by an overactive bladder.
  • Eye twitching; it can help relieve muscle contractions or twitching around the eyes.

Procedure

A healthcare professional injects a small amount of botulinum toxin into specific muscles. These muscles need to be the ones that produce wrinkles so that your natural facial expressions are preserved.

The number of injections and the duration of the procedure depend on your facial features and the severity of your wrinkles. However, they usually do not take longer than 20 minutes.

Side Effects

These injections are quite safe, and side effects or complications are very rare, but they must be administered by a specialist physician.

  • Crooked smile
  • Headache
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Drooling
  • Dry eyes
  • Excessive tearing
  • Pain and swelling at the injection site
